The Salvation Army arranges conferences once a year for its comrades. The application runs on a Lotus Domino platform, using domino as the web application and database server. This application uses the access control provided for Lotus Domino users for their authentication, but uses profile document based authentication when registration is done by non-domino users.

Business Challenge
The challenge was to build an event management system. It would need to gather archived data in various formats and include them in the database. The next challenge was to use a dual authentication system. Lotus domino users would log in using their lotus domino user id and password, but not domino users, would need to be given an id and password so that they could log in and get all the privileges of a domino user.
The event, system needed a place to add agenda and the ability for users to add in real time comments to the meeting or presentation. These comments would be stored in the database and the user could refer them at a later date. They would need to be private for every user.

The browser independent web based application has the capability to register people from the address book and also those who are not listed in the public address book. Though the security is not compromised, it gives the flexibility of engaging temporary members on the application, without purchasing licenses. Integration of AJAX in the domino application helps with easy navigation of the application and increased usability. Users are able to log on to live discussions, maintain actionable items and history of past conferences. The administration that is handled from the notes client gives the administrator all the access needed.
